Luxembourg Joins GGGI to Drive Global Sustainable Finance and Green Growth

Luxembourg Joins the Global Green Growth Institute

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has been welcomed as the 51st member of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in a ceremony led by H.E. Ban Ki-moon, President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of GGGI. This move underlines Luxembourg's commitment to sustainable finance and climate action, enhancing partnerships with emerging economies within GGGI.

Significant Projects and Funding Initiatives

Luxembourg's involvement with GGGI began in 2018 under the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Biodiversity. Initial projects in Vanuatu focused on climate resilience through solar-powered water systems. As of 2023, Luxembourg has extended support to Small Island Developing States, addressing climate challenges in the Pacific and Caribbean through the SIDS Climate Action Program (SIDS-CAP).

Luxembourg's Financial Leadership

The Global Trust Fund on Sustainable Finance Instruments (GTF), launched in collaboration with the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, has mobilized USD 2.1 billion in climate finance, supporting projects across 18 countries. Projects funded include wastewater treatment in Cambodia and renewable energy in Namibia, illustrating Luxembourg's pivotal role in sustainable finance.

Strategic Partnerships and Future Goals

With the inauguration of GGGI's Luxembourg Office at the Luxembourg House of Financial Technologies in 2023, the focus has been on carbon pricing and building partnerships within the financial ecosystem. Luxembourg aims to leverage these connections to foster innovative financial solutions for climate resilience.

Luxembourg's integration into GGGI not only underscores its leadership in sustainable finance but also sets the stage for impactful global partnerships. By driving innovative financial solutions, Luxembourg is poised to play a crucial role in the fight against climate change.
